Lewes Junior Badminton club was formed in 2007 with the aim of providing coaching and playing opportunities for young badminton players in and around the Lewes area. A club that started with just 3 juniors has now grown to almost 60 members. Ages range from age 8 to 18 with playing ability from absolute beginner up to County standard, and all are able to learn and play badminton in a safe and friendly environment.

 

Over the last few seasons we have also formed close links with Lewes Priory Secondary school, where there is an active programme of badminton. There is now a clear "pathway" for those young players wishing to progress from school badminton to club. A number of Primary schools in Lewes have also started "The Racket Pack" which is a Badminton England initiative to deliver fun skill based badminton sessions for children aged 5 to 11. A number of primary school children now play at our club.

 

With four very separate sessions there should be a suitable group for any young person wishing to join. As a player develops there are opportunities to advance  groups, and as a final pathway, we have a senior club where many of our more advanced players are invited to join. As a competitive club we do encourage our young players to compete in local tournaments and matches when they feel comfortable to do so.
